Our commitment to Environmental and Social Responsibilty

At Nokia, we believe that good business and social responsibility go hand-in-hand – so everyone can benefit.

We are committed to a greener, healthier, and safer environment.

Some examples of our efforts in this area include:

• Reducing impact on climate change: We currently use 25% green electricity in Nokia’s facilities and plan to use it for 50% of our global energy needs by 2010.
• Producing green products and packaging: 65-80% of a Nokia mobile device can now be recycled, and accessories packaging has been developed to reduce the amount of plastics by 60%.
• Saving energy: Leaving a device plugged in when it is fully charged wastes energy. Over the last nine years, we have reduced the amount of energy used by our best-in-class chargers when not charging a phone by 90%.

Nokia also has a number of programs in place to ensure that we are making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and do business in.

For example:

• Volunteering: Nokia Helping Hands Days are 1-2 working days employees can take per year, allowing them to go out into the community and contribute to a cause they care about.
• Youth involvement: Nokia supports youth development programs that develop confidence, teamwork, leadership and conflict management among disadvantaged young people in approximately 40 countries. For example, in San Francisco, California, we help give youth communities avenues for self-expression through video production.
• Social development: In 2007, Nokia launched a new wiki website – www.ShareIdeas.org – in partnership with Vodaphone – to encourage people to share ideas on how to use mobile communications to address social and environmental challenges.
