Nokia N96 support

Tips for smarter use
View your videos in landscape view

Use your Nokia N96 to the fullest: Operate your videos easily with dedicated media keys and enjoy the full screen view using the landscape mode.

Using Widgets

Widgets are small, downloadable web applications that deliver multimedia, news feeds, and other information, such as weather reports, to your device. Installed widgets appear as separate applications in the Applications folder.

You can download widgets using the Download! application or from the web. The default access point for widgets is the same as in the web browser. When active in the background, some widgets may update information automatically to your device.

Using widgets may involve the transmission of large amounts of data through your service provider's network. Contact your service provider for information about data transmission charges.

Install N-Gage

You can download, purchase and play games through the N-Gage application in your device. To start, you need the following:

  • An N-Gage compatible device.
  • The latest device software. If your device software is out of date you are prompted to update it before you can download N-Gage.
  • A GPRS or 3G connection. You can also use WLAN if available.
  • When downloading and installing the N-Gage application or games with a computer, it is recommended that you also have Nokia PC Suite version 6.84 or higher installed.

To download the full N-Gage application, press the multimedia key, and select to Games > Install N-Gage. The Home module is the default view when you start the N-Gage application. If one or more games are already installed, the Start Game option appears in the Home module. To start playing the game you last played, select Start Game or Options > Start Game.

Kick stand

Did you know that you have a handy kick stand in your device? You can place your device to the table on horizontal position and watch TV, videos etc. easily. To use the kick stand, just lift the ring which is placed around the camera lense.

Searching for a podcast?

Search helps you find podcasts by keyword or title. The search engine uses the podcast search service you set up in Podcasting > Options > Settings > Connection > Search service URL.

To search for podcasts, select Search, and enter the desired keywords. Search looks for podcast titles and keywords in descriptions, not specific episodes. General topics, such as football or hip-hop, usually give better results than a specific team or artist.

Switch between profiles

To switch between the general and silent profiles in the standby mode, press and hold #.

Unnecessary applications running?

To check whether there are applications running in the background, press and hold Menu key. To close the applications you do not use, scroll to an application in the list, and press C. Leaving applications running in the background increases the demand on battery power.

Want to update your software?

To update the software in your device, go to Software Update pages. To check what software version you have at the moment, enter *#0000# in the standby mode.
