What is the Home Media application in my Nokia device?

The Home Media application allows you to copy, share, control, and synchronize content like images, music, and video files between your compatible Nokia device and a compatible device such as a PC, gaming console, sound system, TV, or Network Attached Storage device (NAS). To do this, you need to set up a home network, and connect your compatible Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) devices to it.

A Network Attached Storage device (NAS) is a device that shares the files stored on it with other devices in the network.

What is UPnP?

UPnP is short for Universal Plug and Play. It is a simple home networking standard that allows the automatic discovery and sharing of content between supported devices in the network.

How secure is my home network?

Your home network uses the security method of your WLAN access point: the WEP or WPA key. In addition, your compatible Nokia device asks your permission before connecting to the home network. Make sure that you do not accept any unknown requests.

What technologies does the Home Media application use?

Home Media uses Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). The connection is made with WLAN.

Why can't I see the home network options in Gallery?

You need to define a local access point in the Home Media application. When defined, you see the option Show via home networks or Play via home networks in Gallery, and you can show content from Gallery, or play music from the Music player application in the home network.

How do I make my content available for other devices in my home network, use and control content that is located elsewhere than my compatible Nokia device, or synchronize content between my compatible Nokia device and other compatible devices in the home network?

You need to have the Home Media application configured in your compatible Nokia device.

  1. If you use a compatible PC in your home network, install and configure the Home Media Server application to it.

  3. Select Menu > Tools > Options > Connectivity > Home Media to define how your compatible Nokia device communicates with the home network.

You are now ready to start using content. Sharing can be initiated from your Nokia device's Gallery or from the Home Media application.

Can I synchronize Digital Rights Management (copy-protected content) with the Home media application?

You can synchronize the content. However, the license will not be transferred so you will not be able to play the content on the device you synched to, unless you acquire a new license from the content provider.
