Creating our products

At Nokia, we take a proactive approach when considering how our different activities might impact the environment, taking environmental issues into account at every stage of the product lifecycle.

We focus on

  • environmentally sound materials and material efficiency
  • energy consumption
  • recycling and other end-of-life (EoL) practices

throughout the product lifecycle.

By also providing environment related software applications and services, we increase people’s awareness of environmental choices and promote sustainable actions, like offsetting CO2 emissions caused by flying.

Nokia’s mobile devices offer you lots of ways to be environmentally friendly – to consume less materially and more virtually. For example, you can:

  • use your phone for long-distance calls or video conferences to reduce the need to travel
  • take, share and store images on your phone instead of printing them out
  • listen to MP3s or radio, or download music to your device instead of buying a CD.

To help reduce energy consumption, Nokia devices will remind you to unplug your charger when the battery is full. With over 900 million Nokia phones in use around the world, small steps like these can lead to substantial energy savings.

Effective end-of-life practices close the lifecycle loop, putting energy and valuable materials back into circulation. We currently offer take-back schemes in 85 countries. Find your nearest take-back point.
